ACKIM CHIBALE
"A DAVE CHAPELLE, WITH AN AFRO"
The first part of this article was difficult, how do you give a summary on someone who had you laughing through out the interview? I summed him up in one word, comical. Ackim Chibale is a virtually hilarious character. What's crazy is he does this effortlessly.
I watched Ackim's show first on youtube right after my good friend told me about him. I had barely met him before we had a comical interview that killed me through and through (by killed i mean with laughter. He is a one of a kind comedian and I thought; it would be dispeakable of me to keep all this hilarious information about Ackim to myself.
Q: What is your name?
My name is Ackim Chibale. Full names Ackim Niza Chibale
My name is Ackim Chibale. Full names Ackim Niza Chibale
Q: Are you a student?
Yes I am a student, studying Food Production Management (culinary school; becoming a chef).
Q: What are you currently doing (career wise)?
I am currently performing around Lusaka, wherever or whenever I get the chance. I host a comedy open mic at Global Platform Zambia every first and third Friday of every month. In addition I pop in where there's an open mic that's comedy friendly too. I watch stand up comedy every day! I watch films or videos from as far back as the 60's. It helps with the new ideas.
Q: What do you love about your current career?
I love the stand up because I get a kick out of it, it's satisfying (time to time) when I don't suck or as they say "dry." There's really nothing else other than it's fun to do it and sometimes on stage I actually laugh for real . But now I hear I can make money from it so when that happens, that'll be a pretty good reason to love stand up comedy too.
Q: What is your biggest ambition?
Biggest ambition? *Stares into ceiling* I don't know, I want to have 6 children, does that count as biggest ambition?
Q: Do you have talents? what are they?
Believe it or not, I don't think I have talents or I've discovered my talent(s) yet. Nothing has ever come easy for me honestly, it's usually been trying and failing and then stick to something where I don't fail so much. When I discover my talent, I'll give you a call.
Q: What do you like doing in your spare time?
In my spare time? /* part left out */ . (leave this out). I'm a pretty laid back guy, I'll just be home, reading, eating, cooking or watching videos on my phone and if the football season is going on, I'll be watching that. I comfort myself by saying the fun stuff is yet to come.
Q: Who is your celebrity crush?
Celebrity crush I'd say Rihanna, Cleo ice queen before the marriage (not allowed to look at her lustfully), there's this new artist called Katongo, she's pretty hot too, she currently tops the list.

Q: What would you change your name to?
Funny thing as a kid I thought Ackim wasn't a nice or cool enough name, but I'm the only original surviving Ackim so I wouldn't change it unless I'm offered 50 million dollars lol. My family and I wouldn't mind.
Q: Do you love pets? What's your favorite type of pets?
I hated pets. Then found some cat at home that had a high affinity for handsome men and I changed my view on pets. The handsome men I'm referring is me by the way, I'm not using the blog as a way of coming out the closet lol. But yeah, the cat unfortunately got hit by a car, 9 lives vanished in seconds so now I have to puppies Pepper (female) and Rash (male)
Q: What's habit is the most annoying to you?
Bad habit, procrastination. Procrastination is the devil I tell you, zero progress.
Q: Do you get used to being a celebrity?
I don't think I've had a taste of "celebrity" before. People love attention but I'd like it for the right reasons, I don't want to be a one hit wonder or just that guy from a Funny video on Facebook.
Q: What motivated you to get into the career you into?
Motivation was just the lack of activities, I just wanted to get up to something and I enjoyed watching comedy so nothing magical or that Martin Luther King inspiration, boredom Che.
Q: Who is your inspiration?
I don't have one inspiration, they tend to change depending on whoever or whatever I've discovered. Wait, I think I know. Inspirations are Michael Jackson, Ricky Gervais, Don Rickles, Richard Pryor and the 70's dress code (they looked cool those guys back then). It inspires me
Q: Do you speak any other languages?
I speak nyanja and bemba (not fluent); currently learning French (not fluent as well but by end of year I'll be trĂªs bien); I also know bits of Spanish, just stuff that would make me get to the nearest police station or some fine Spanish chica .
Q: Where would you like to visit?
I would love to visit Czech republic and other countries in Europe. In addition, I'd love to visit the Bahamas.
Q: What's your favorite foreign dish?
I don't think I've discovered that dish yet but so far, Shepard's pie, it's amazing! It's like lasagna but so much better.
Q: What do you love the most about your career/careers?
I love meeting new people, except when I meet them a second time and I don't remember who they are ; it can be awkward. I also love seeing new faces smiling up at me, makes me feel like I've made it in life or just very handsome.
Q: What would you love to tell your fans?
What would I love to tell my fans? if there's any of you out there, please come to my shows and open mics .
Q: Would you love to give any shout outs?
A big shout out to myself, my guy you're moving up monga ni boza! Also a shout out to Agape Christian Church for letting me be a floor manager 3 years ago, I've never wanted to leave the stage since.
Q: Do you have a dream car?
Mercedes Benz G-Class, diesel engine of course, love the noise; not only says I'm rich and most likely with a hot chick.
Q: If you had a million dollars to spare, what would you do with it?
A million dollars to spare, I'd visit where I grew up, give all my old friends a thousand dollars and then revamp the entire community; build roads, theatres for arts and crafts etc, football pitches, markets, clean water supply and donate medical supplies to local clinics.
Q: This is a personal-ish question. If you were president for a day, what would be your first
act?
President for a day, speed things up at RATSA; it's a ridiculous process getting a license over there. Start up a new anti corruption commission, start up an immediate project to renovate bathrooms in universities, legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes (obviously) and appoint my mother vice president, she'd love being in charge like that.Talented, energetic and charismatic, Ackim is highly made in Zed. Catch Ackim Chibale on his shows at Global Platforms (Global Platforms is opposite the University of Zambia - town bound bus stops). Follow his page on social media by clicking these links facebook and youtube. Enjoy watching Ackim work wonders!!!
Yours truly,
Mali - like the country.
P. S. here is a short video of Ackim's performances
