Precious Phiri

THE FEMININE ROYALTY

Imagine you have this one Facebook friend who is always advocating for the women's rights, fighting for those vulnerable (financially and physically) and a general philanthropist. That's what happened with me this year before we had our umuntu wa pa Zed photoshoot. I was scrolling through my feed and I found this proactive active always advocating for people, a true feminist (anad not the radical type). I was impressed with her fight; it was against leaving people behind while society progressed and not people. A true leader. This particular account happened to belong to Precious Phiri, Miss UNZA. I was impressed with her.
We all know the stereotype for models, tall, beautiful, slender and almost physically in perfect shape. Brains are a secondary and advantageous quality. Well that is not entirely true of Precious. Yes she is as beautiful as all models are, in great shape but... she is shorter than most of them. A fact she takes a lot of pride in. So I chased her down, and imposed my brutal 20/21 questions on her. Here is what I found.

What got you into the career you are in right now?
Modeling… well I like to voice out on social issues. I thought it would work out. Moreover, people mocked me for being slim when growing up so I used modeling as a platform to show people that I was also perfect in my own way. I also use it as a way of showing people they are perfect too.

Do you ever get used to popularity/being a celebrity?
Mmmmmmmm that’s a hard question. I think one can never get used.

What's the weirdest thing a fan has told you?
How are you short and miss UNZA….? Because the stereotype for models is tall, and taller height gives an advantage apparently. I guess I defied the odds by being the first first prize winner to be short.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Lulu Hangala, she inspires me so much.

Do you have any hobbies?
Traveling, partying, socializing and exploring new things(adventure)

Do you like pets? And what you if you do...?
Yes I do. Cats and small dogs.

The future looks bright. After everything I would like to focus on commercial modeling to work with bigger labels and inspire more people

.
What do you hate the most in terms of habits/behaviours?
I am not fond of very quiet and judgmental people. I like interactive people because its easy to know how they feel about certain conversations. I don't mind quiet people though, I just try to get them talking whenever I meet them.

What would you love to change about Zambia?
The decisions made by certain leaders. I would like a radical leader. I would love to see change, I am an advocate of change, I do not like seeing people being exploited by selfish people. Equality is a right.

The peace is so amazing

If you were someone for a day, who would it be?
God :) because there are a lot of things I would love to change that no man can change.

When I was younger, I always wanted to be?

I always wanted to be a lawyer and a leader/law maker. Then I grew up and realized that the system and money still controlled how one thought. So I diverted to a cause that's much freer (diverse) to allow me growth.

What's the biggest challenge in your field/fields?
Height

What would you call true success?
True success is one being happy and spreading that happiness to all those around. Being a blessing to others and making opportunities for others is my version of true success.

What foreign food do you fancy?
Pizza straight up. However, I usually lean more towards Zambian foods.

Law making/Leading. I respect it because its a platform to enforce change. In the hands of the right people, law making is the right way to bring about change in people’s lives in the nation.

What was the hardest thing about getting where you are now?
Finances, finding balance between school life and modeling, and attaining self efficacy.

Who would you like to give a shout out or shout outs to?
My grandparents! When everyone thought my career was a joke, they supported me. Which is surprising because them being from the preceding generation, one would expect them to have been against my profession. However they had my back through and through. They are my ride or die people.

A word of inspiration to anyone who would love to be like you?
Get an education first and always put God first. Then hustle, God doesnt bless lazy people. But before you hustle, get educated. And never forget, hard work always pays.
