RACHEL TEMBO

A CONNOISSEUR OF THE ART OF DARK TALES

Rachel Tembo
A Rachel 'Rech' Tembo is the only female writer (among others) that I have seen walk the valley of the shadow of 'dark fiction' and fear not to bring horrifying but amazing horror literature to life. With horror, thriller, romanticism and action filled tales, Rachel brings to life the southern central African version of horror literature; a field heather-to unheard from.
Personally I was a big fan of Rachel's work as writer. The most relatable eminent writer I have seen write that well is R. L. Stine (author of goosebumps). With captivating tales that make one wander off into a world of magic and the supernatural, Rachel makes it seem effortless to write tales of horror especially since horror is relative from society to society (try to research zombies. Apparently, they differ from place to place).
So we decided to make a collection of the works of Rachel Tembo from Wattpad.com. Please feel free to contact her @rechiana. Her works include:

Are you into horror and gore - dark stories with horrible and bitter sweet endings? Oh my gosh short stories too? You my friend have scrolled to the right book. Experience the chilling and creepy tales that are su...

MADE IN ZED STATUS: CONNOISSEUR OF THE ART OF DARK TALES. Rachel is a hardworking writer who works harder than most people to improve her skills in story telling. As per regards her work, she is by far one of the finest writers of all times in Zambia, especially on the fiction side.

After stalking Rachel's literature for a minute, we decide to interview her about herself too. This was the conversation we had with her.

Rachel Tembo

What is your name?
My name is Racheal Tembo.

Q: Are you a student?
A: No, I am not a student. I graduated from UNZA two years ago.
Q: What are you currently doing (career wise)?

A: I am a social worker by profession but at the moment I'm not doing anything in that regard besides probono counseling services online.
Q: what do you love about your current career?
A: I love that I get the opportunity to meet and help diverse populations with social problems. Knowing that you have lessened someone's burden is a beautiful feeling.
Q: What is your biggest ambition?
A: To become a recognized author.
Q: Do you have talents? what are they?
A: I'm a writer! My major genres are fantasy, mystery thriller, horror and general fiction.
I write! Writing is much more than a talent for me, it is my passion. I always make time for it in order not to keep my fans on wattpad waiting for too long. I barely have time for movies and anime anymore because I'm obsessed with slapping my imagination on my keyboard.

Q: What's habit is the most annoying to you?
A: Talking loudly unnecessarily. As an introvert, I'm a lover of peace and quiet.

Q:What would you change your name to?
A: I wouldn't change my name for the life of it. While my first name showcases the love my father had for his aunt, my last name screams my origin. As an author, I write for the world and that world has to know where I'm from. I love representing my country Zambia

Q: Do you love pets? What's your favorite type of pets?
A: Oh my gosh yes. I'm an animal lover. There's literally a point in my life when I preferred animals to people. My favorite pets are dogs. Please if you have a friendly and playful big dog and it jumps on me, don't get it off me. If that's how I'm going to go then that's how I'm going to go.
Q: Who is your celebrity crush?
A: Jason Mamoa hands down. That man is a greek god.

Jason Mamoa as Arthur Curry in Aquaman
Q:Do you get used to being a celebrity?
A: Lol I don't consider myself one but no. I'm not yet used. I die for at least half an hour when new fans compliment my work and share it. It's a surreal feeling.

Q: What motivated you to get into the career you into?
A: My parents and best friend Paxina Nsewa's encouragement and support.

Q:Who is your inspiration?
A: I have three inspirations, Tite Kubo (Bleach creator - yes I watch anime), J. K Rowling and Stephen King.

Q: Do you speak any other languages?
A:Yes, Bemba and Nyanja - terrible accents though because English is my first language.

Q: Where would you like to visit?
A: Japan! It would be a dream come true for this Otaku to go to the land of anime and manga. Oh my God.

Q:What's your favorite foreign dish?
A: Pizza!

Q: What would you love to tell your fans?
A:Go after your dreams. No dream is too small or too big. When it comes to dream chasing, it's important to remain optimistic. I have had people tell me that writing will get me nowhere because people hardly ever read in this country. Others even went as far as telling me that people will never be interested in reading my horror and fantasy novels. I have been laughed at for writing about vampires. Did that stop me? No sir I waged on and I'm still working hard towards my dream. Two years ago, I only had one fan and that was my best friend. Today I have global fans. At the moment I'm planning on publishing my first book on Kindle publishing especially considering that the biggest part of my fan base are the Americans.
Dreams do come true, you just have to put in your best and let God do the rest. However, I must caution you not to put your dreams first before God. Always make time for Him, that's how blessings come.
Q: Would you love to give any shout outs?
A: Yes! Shout out to my mother, Matildah Inambao for raising me to have a fighting spirit.
Shout out to my father, Edward Tembo, for financially supporting my dreams despite not understanding them.
Another shout out goes to my Paxina Nsewa for being my biggest fan.
Lastly but surely not the least, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has offered me support in this journey. You are the best and I love you.
